Week of 2.2.15 :: Alt Rock * Grizfolk - Hymnals
Grizfolk. Have you heard of them yet? If you're into anything alternative, indie, americana, rock, or electronic, you probably should take a listen.
A relatively new band, the five pieces came together circa 2013 after Adam Roth (vocals, guitar), a singer/songwriter from Florida, connected with two Swedes Fredrik Erikkson and Sebastian Fritze, who were also producing music in the L.A. scene. They have since added Brendan Willing James (guitar, vocals) and Bill Delia (drums), and eventually got signed to Virgin Records in 2013.
Currently, Grizfolk has a five song EP called From The Spark (2014), which includes the band's first single, "The Struggle". 2014 was a good year for the guys, who toured with labelmates Bastille in the fall, helping to promote their EP. And 2015 is already on track to be a huge building year, with a handful of shows lined up for February (on The Vagabonds Tour) - Grizfolk will also be releasing a full album this year (date: TBD)! They're scheduled to play a number of spring festivals, like Pot of Gold Fest (AZ), Boston Calling (MA), Hangout Music Fest (AL), and Bottlerock Fest (CA). I wouldn't be surprised to see them on a Chicago music fest lineup either.
Sadly, I totally missed my chance to see them play at Schubas last week (1/29) - their show was already sold out by the time I realized how awesome they are. But I expect them to come back at some point this year, because they're on the verge of becoming really popular! Take a listen to "Hymnals" here ::
